Reducing The Size of Government
In her 28 year career, Governor Brewer has been a consistent leader for smaller government. She has permanently reduced the size of Arizona’s government and is actively streamlining its functions. Governor Brewer has a long standing track record of cutting spending and reducing government waste.
- Enacted more than $2 billion in budget reductions, eliminating state programs and services, and substantially reducing the state’s work force – the most of any Arizona governor in state history.
- Implemented COPE - Streamlining government identifying services and agencies whose functions can be eliminated, consolidated, outsourced to achieve greater efficiency.
- Reduced the number of state employees by 10%.
- As Secretary of State, I consolidated workforce assignments, eliminated staff overtime, and eliminated various other non-essential expenditures.
- Transformed Maricopa County from a local government bogged down so deep in debt that it had utilized $165 million in short-term borrowing just to meet cash flow into one of the fiscally healthy counties in the nation.
- Created a centralized, statewide voter registration database reducing the duplication on the voter rolls increasing accuracy and efficiency while cutting costs.
